Due to the growth of our business we now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced butcher to join our well-established team, working at our on-farm Production facility, responsible for producing the highest quality fresh pork, sausages, gammon and bacon products from our farm which we supply direct to customers and farm shops across the country. The Skilled Butcher will report to the Manager and business owner.
Main Role & Key Responsibilities
Our ethos is that we use and respect the whole animal (from Farm to Fork) so we are seeking someone with the skills and experience to break down pork (all species of carcass but mainly Pork) efficiently to retail standard to agreed specifications. The successful candidate must be able to Bone out, Cut & trim pork to Puddledub’s high standards, while demonstrating working from their own initiative and show the ability to follow and advise others ensuring that our products are made to the consistently high quality that our customers are accustomed to and for production to meet customer expectations and production deadlines.
Comply with highest statutory requirements and procedures on safe food handling are met at all times, HACCP and record keeping. You will maintain all Health and, Safety Hygiene rules as laid out by the Company at all times uphold a high level of cleanliness, both of the production & retail area.
Confidence and a competent understanding of all aspects and species of carcass meat.
Experienced whole carcass butcher Pork, Beef, Lamb, minimum of 3 + years, preferably in the UK
Ensure strict adherence to quality and ethical procedure/policy at all times
Knowledge of Making Sausages & Burgers, following recipes and spec
Follow traceability process and ensure product labelling integrity at all times
This is a full-time role, permanent position, working 5 days a week Monday to Friday, although shifts may vary (with overtime at busy times)
Be proactive in minimising waste to produce optimum production yield
The Right Person - Knowledge & Experience
The right candidate will have a passion for butchering and good food, producing cuts to the highest quality and have experience gained in a comparable environment preferably with Lamb or Pork & Beef.
A hard-working, highly motivated individual with high output, you will have a positive and proactive attitude to work. You will be reliable, hard-working and a great team player, used to working in a fast-paced environment
You will possess good interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal) & excellent timekeeping. You will have the ability to remain calm under pressure and will be experienced in balancing the needs of the customer whilst working to a clean and safe manner. A constructive member of the team, you will proactively support Puddledub’s reputation as a leading food producer and a great place to work.
Fluent in English with independent transport to our butchery at KY2.
Must be polite, smart and physically fit, Willingness to learn and develop your skills
Knowledge and practical experience of working with food safety standards
Able to follow detailed operating procedures with a high degree of attention to detail
Food Safety Level 2 qualification is desirable but not essential as training will be given
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to work in customer-facing shop counter (an advantage)
As a skilled Butcher, you must be able to demonstrate knife skills and have at least three years’ experience in butchery
There is a real chance of progression within the business for a self-driven individual
Additional skills: Drivers License, First Aid Training, Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate, HACCP (level 2).
